Chinese export Grisaille Porcelain saucer finely painted in black enamel with a detailed European riverside scene.
The central image depicts a gentleman and lady engaged in fishing, after an engraving by Jacopo Amigoni (1675–1752),
titled “Aqua” from his renowned allegorical series of the Four Elements.The cavetto is decorated with
scattered floral sprigs and diaper panels, accented with light gilt highlights along the rim.

Collector’s Notes: Such Qianlong period Chinese Export Porcelain was produced specifically for the European market, translating popular Western engravings into refined ceramic form. Grisaille wares are especially prized for their subtle tonal shading and close relationship to contemporary European print culture.
