DESCRIPTION

A charming Chinese cloisonne enamel trinket box of rounded form with hinged lid.
The lid is decorated with stylized fruit and foliage in white, blue and green enamels against a black ground.
The sides feature an attractive repeating gilt cloud motif.
The interior is finished in bright blue enamel.
A decorative and functional example of early 20th century Chinese export cloisonne work.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Chinese cloisonne boxes were popular export wares during the late Qing and Republican periods.
Small hinged examples such as this were produced for the decorative arts market and remain sought after for their colorful enamelwork and practical display appeal.
