📜 Description
A fine example of a Josiah Wedgwood pearlware cabbage leaf plate dated 1860. The plate is hand-enameled in soft shades of green on a white ground, showing delicate veining to simulate a leaf. The rim is finished in a molded basketweave texture typical of Wedgwood’s mid-19th century production. Each piece from this series reflects Wedgwood’s fascination with naturalistic forms and the English taste for decorative dining wares of the Regency and Victorian periods.
Collector’s Notes: These hand-enameled pearlware cabbage plates were produced by Josiah Wedgwood & Sons as part of their naturalistic tableware range. Comparable examples are held in major museum collections, such as the Winnipeg Art Gallery (c.1785) and in the 1stDibs archives (dated 1860). Collectors value them for their refined modeling, gentle enamel tones, and association with early Victorian domestic artistry.
