๐Ÿ“œ Description
A finely carved antique Chinese wooden stand, dating to the late Qing dynasty (circa 1880โ€“1930). This diminutive piece features a traditional pierced scrollwork apron with four integral legs, supporting a recessed platform for a scholarโ€™s object, snuff bottle, or small porcelain item.

The wood exhibits a deep reddish-brown tone with a naturally aged patina, slightly dry to the touch, with areas of surface polish worn from use and time. The base is recessed and fully hand-carved, with traces of old lacquer or pigment in the crevices. The underside confirms old chisel marks and toolwork consistent with late 19th-century Chinese carving.

The proportions are balanced and functionalโ€”perfect for displaying a small object of art, such as a jade carving, snuff bottle, or bronze ornament.

Collector’s Notes: Late Qing wooden stands like this were often carved from a variety of native hardwoods, not necessarily precious rosewood. While not hongmu, this piece offers an authentic, traditional appearance ideal for contextual display. It reflects the scholar’s taste for simplicity, elegance, and craftsmanship without the need for grand material value.

๐Ÿ” Condition GOOD โ€“ Surface shows scratches and consistent patina from use. Please inspect photos for details.
