DESCRIPTION

A large Chinese porcelain vase dating to the late 20th century, after the Republic period, and decorated in a colorful famille rose palette. The principal reserves depict groups of children playing with lanterns, toys and a crane within mountainous garden landscapes. The panels are surrounded by a dense turquoise ground filled with flowers, scrolling foliage and small birds, with ruyi head and geometric borders completing the design. The vase has a baluster body rising to a flared neck and displays lively figural decoration and strong color throughout.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

This late 20th century vase continues decorative traditions associated with Qing and Republic period famille rose porcelain. Its elaborate figural scenes, turquoise floral ground and apocryphal Qianlong seal mark reflect the continued popularity of earlier Chinese porcelain designs in later decorative production.
