DESCRIPTION

A 19th century Chinese Qing Dynasty porcelain saucer decorated in the colorful Canton famille rose style. The central reserve depicts a Mandarin court scene with several figures arranged within a garden and architectural setting. The surrounding border is densely painted with flowers, birds, butterflies and decorative motifs in bright famille rose enamels enriched with gilt details. A gently scalloped rim adds further decorative character to the piece. Despite extensive historic damage and restoration, the saucer retains much of its detailed period decoration and visual appeal.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Canton famille rose wares featuring Mandarin figural scenes were produced extensively for the Western export market during the 19th century. Their combination of courtly figures, architectural settings, flowers, birds and richly colored enamels is characteristic of Qing Dynasty export porcelain and remains popular with collectors.
