DESCRIPTION
Chinese porcelain plate painted in famille rose enamels with a detailed interior scene identified as Romance of the Western Chamber. A seated figure in pink robes faces a standing attendant holding a fan, while a third figure appears through an open window. Furnishings, vessels and architectural details enrich the composition, rendered in pink, turquoise, blue and iron red. Scattered floral and fruit sprays decorate the broad rim, finished with a narrow brown edge.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
The narrative composition offers particular interest through its finely depicted furnishings, expressive figures and domestic setting. The restrained floral border leaves the central scene prominent, making this an appealing example for a collection of Chinese figural porcelain.
