Chinese blue and white porcelain plate decorated in the center with flowering plants and a vase of auspicious scholar’s objects including a ruyi scepter. The design is executed in rich cobalt blue with finely detailed floral and diaper borders. The reverse remains plain with an unmarked base and characteristic Qing period foot rim. An elegant example of 18th century Chinese export porcelain with traditional symbolic decoration.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
Precious object motifs on Qing porcelain symbolized scholarship, authority, prosperity, and good fortune. The ruyi scepter in particular represented power and the granting of wishes, making it a favored decorative element in Daoist and scholarly imagery. Blue and white export wares of this period remain highly collectible for their refined painting and symbolic themes.
