DESCRIPTION
A charming Chinese blue and white porcelain pin tray of oval form, decorated in underglaze cobalt blue. The interior features a central flower surrounded by scrolling foliage and stylized bats, traditional symbols of happiness and good fortune. The shallow form and delicate proportions make it suitable as a pin tray, trinket dish, or scholar’s table accessory. An attractive example of late Qing decorative porcelain.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
Small porcelain trays such as this were used for a variety of purposes, including holding pins, small ornaments, or writing table accessories. Blue and white wares of the Guangxu period continued the long Chinese tradition of cobalt decoration, with auspicious bat motifs remaining popular throughout the Qing Dynasty.
