CONDITION

FAIR (3/5) – Multiple hairline cracks across the base and decorated centre, with a crack extending through the border to the rim, minor rim fritting, light staining and wear to the enamels and gilding. Please review the photos carefully for more details.

DESCRIPTION

Chinese Qianlong octagonal porcelain plate painted in famille rose enamels with large pink blooms, flowering branches and green foliage rising beside blue pierced rockwork. An iron-red band enriched with gilt floral scrollwork surrounds the centre, interrupted by four white reserves containing pink leaves. Small floral sprays decorate the broad rim, finished with a delicate gilt and iron-red edging. The reverse is plain with an unmarked glazed base and circular footrim.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Garden compositions combining flowering plants and ornamental rockwork are characteristic subjects on Chinese export porcelain. The octagonal form and richly gilded inner border give this example a particularly decorative appearance.
