DESCRIPTION

Chinese octagonal porcelain plate decorated in underglaze blue with four groups of flowering sprays and ribbon-tied ornamental objects surrounding a small central blossom. A band of circular rosettes encloses the well, while the broad rim combines floral panels, angular motifs and finely hatched diaper decoration. Dark blue outlines contrast with softer washes beneath a pale blue-tinted glaze. The plain reverse rests on a raised circular foot.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

The balanced arrangement of floral sprays and ornamental objects gives this plate a distinctive decorative character. Its layered borders and octagonal outline provide particular interest for collectors of Chinese blue and white porcelain.
