The vessel is fitted with an elegant openwork carved wooden cover, featuring intricate scrolling foliage and a central stylized motif, allowing fragrance or air circulation while protecting the contents.
Collector’s Notes: Pieces decorated with the mythological Foo Lion are highly symbolic in Chinese art. The guardian lion represents protection, strength, and imperial authority. Green monochrome and incised decoration styles appear on ceramics associated with the Kangxi era of the Qing Dynasty, a period celebrated for technical innovation and refinement in Chinese Porcelain. Jars like this were often used for storage or as decorative vessels in scholar interiors, and the addition of a carved wooden cover reflects traditional Chinese aesthetic harmony between ceramic and wood craftsmanship.
