DESCRIPTION
An attractive Chinese Qing Dynasty porcelain dish of elongated quatrefoil form, raised on a substantial oval pedestal foot and decorated in the traditional Famille Rose palette. The central panel features colourful butterflies and floral motifs enclosed within a shaped iron-red border, surrounded by an elaborate arrangement of flowering peonies, chrysanthemums, leafy branches and smaller blossoms. The exterior is decorated with peaches, stylised bats and auspicious symbols, while the raised foot displays a striking green and blue wave pattern. The gently scalloped rim is finished with delicate gilding, complementing the richly coloured enamel decoration. The underside bears an iron-red six-character Guangxu reign mark. The unusual raised form and intricate decoration give the dish a distinctive ornamental character.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
Famille Rose porcelain became an important part of Chinese ceramic production during the Qing Dynasty, particularly for decorative and presentation wares. Bats traditionally symbolise happiness and good fortune, while peaches represent longevity and flowering peonies are associated with prosperity and honour. The combination of these auspicious motifs reflects established Chinese decorative traditions. The Guangxu reign mark refers to the period 1875-1908, although the mark alone does not establish the date of manufacture. An appealing example for collectors of Chinese Qing porcelain, Famille Rose decoration and auspicious symbolism.
