DESCRIPTION
Chinese export porcelain dish decorated in the Mandarin palette dating to the late Qianlong period. The interior features a lively court scene with figures gathered before a pavilion in a mountainous riverside landscape. Rich iron red, pink, purple, turquoise, and gilt enamels create a vibrant decorative effect. The shaped rim is finely bordered with repeating geometric and floral motifs. A decorative example of late 18th century Canton export porcelain.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
Mandarin palette wares became highly fashionable in the European export market during the late Qianlong era. These narrative scenes depicting elegant figures and palace settings reflected Western fascination with Chinese courtly life. Examples with elaborate gilding and richly painted borders remain sought after by collectors of Qing export porcelain.
