The cavetto is framed by a geometric Diaper Border, while the wide rim is richly painted with scrolling floral sprays and repeated lotus blossoms. The reverse is plain glazed with an unglazed footrim and simple blue brushwork to the underside. A fine brown-dressed rim is visible around the edge.

Collector’s Notes: In Chinese art, the Lotus (He Hua / Lian Hua) is one of the most admired symbols, valued for rising from the mud yet blooming pure and untainted. For scholars it came to represent moral integrity and an uncorrupted nature. Because the word lian also puns with honesty and incorruptibility, Lotus decoration was especially meaningful in traditional Chinese culture, making Kangxi Blue & White wares with this subject highly appealing to collectors. 🔍 Condition
