CONDITION

FAIR (3/5) – Hairline crack extending from the rim with associated glaze wear and minor rim fritting. Some gilt wear and surface scratches consistent with age. Please review the photos carefully for more details.

DESCRIPTION

An elegant Chinese export porcelain plate decorated in the Imari palette with vivid underglaze cobalt blue, iron red enamels, and gilt highlights. The central design features a large jardiniere filled with flowering branches and stylised blossoms. A richly ornamented border surrounds the cavetto with scrolling foliage, floral sprays, and gilt accents. The balanced composition and strong colour contrast are characteristic of Kangxi export porcelain. A decorative and collectible early Qing example.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE

Chinese Imari porcelain was produced for export markets during the late Kangxi period and became highly sought after in Europe during the 18th century. These wares combined Japanese-inspired colour schemes with Chinese porcelain craftsmanship and were widely collected by aristocratic households. Plates with elaborate floral basket motifs remain especially desirable among collectors of Chinese export ceramics.
