A finely potted Chinese porcelain vase of elegant baluster form, decorated in white slip against a soft celadon ground. The surface is incised and painted with flowering plum branches in full bloom, paired with delicate birds in flight – likely swallows, symbols of the coming spring.

The soft green celadon glaze is evenly applied with subtle tonal variation, lending depth and serenity to the surface.

Collector’s Notes:This vase exemplifies the refined taste of 20th-century Chinese ceramic production, inspired by Qing dynasty celadon wares. The pale green celadon glaze is reminiscent of earlier Longquan traditions, while the white slip decoration provides a poetic, painterly contrast. Plum blossoms (梅, méi) are cherished symbols of resilience and renewal, blooming in winter and often paired with birds to evoke the start of spring and hope in adversity.
