📜 Description
Fine Chinese Porcelain Famille Rose enamels. The central scene depicts lively magpie birds perched among blossoming prunus branches, with additional floral sprays and a delicately painted border featuring scrolling motifs and flowers.
The composition is light and elegant, with soft enamel tones and expressive brushwork typical of the refined Qianlong period aesthetic. The underside is plain with a neatly finished foot rim, consistent with export-quality wares of the Qing Dynasty.
Collector’s Notes:
The motif of magpies and prunus carries a well-known auspicious meaning in Chinese culture known as “喜上眉梢” (Happiness up to the eyebrows). The word for magpie (xi) is a pun for happiness, while mei (prunus) sounds like eyebrows. Together, they symbolize joy, good fortune, and happiness arriving. Such poetic imagery makes Famille Rose Porcelain from the Qianlong Dynasty highly desirable among collectors.
