| 📜 Description | This Chinese Porcelain brush washer is finished in a rich copper-red glaze in the Langyao / Ox Blood (Sang de Boeuf) tradition. The glaze pools to deeper tones and shows subtle Flambé purplish-blue “halo” effects around the mouth/rim. The interior is glazed in a deep red tone, while the foot/base is left unglazed, showing the firing surface and kiln wear typical of this type. Collector’s Notes: Copper-red glazes such as Langyao are prized because the color is difficult to control in the kiln, often producing beautiful variations from ruby to oxblood with occasional bluish flares. Brush washers are classic scholar’s objects used for rinsing brushes and mixing water/ink, and modern examples like this are collected for their bold glaze and traditional desk-form. |
